The COP known as the Conference of the Parties, is the supreme body of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the highest authority with decision-making capacity and agreements of the countries to better face climate action.<\/p>\n
This year the final document or agreement presented by Chile in Madrid emphasizes that scientific knowledge should be \"the main axis\" to guide the decisions of the member countries of the Conference as a basis for increasing climate ambition by 2020 and complying with the Paris Agreement committing countries to prevent the planet's average temperature from continuing to rise above 1.5 degrees.<\/p>\n
In addition, nations pledged to coordinate efforts and work against the \"irreversible\" damages caused by global warming, especially in the most vulnerable countries. Finally, it was established to develop a gender plan that will allow a response to the effects of climate change, specifically, it was agreed to develop measures to achieve balance, participation and leadership of women in positions that have greater relevance in decisions about climate change, all this as a roadmap that guarantees gender equality worldwide.<\/p>\n
