Seeking to take leaps and bounds to go from being a linear economy to a circular one - an objective set within the plan \"Chile Circular Sin Basura\" -, Law No. 20,920 of Extended Producer Responsibility, or REP Law, materializes a new form of management of waste in the country. This new regulation requires the producer to respond for the complete life cycle of the product that it introduces to the market in order to reduce the environmental impact, therefore, as of 2023 (the year in which this Law will come into force) it will be necessary to look for more alternatives sustainable in terms of manufacturing materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ministry of the Environment, the promoter of this initiative, points out that \u201cwe set ourselves a compliance outlook for the year 2034, the date on which we expect the country to achieve between 60% and 70% recycling of different categories of containers and packaging. , by means of the increase of communal infrastructure available for these purposes (\u2026) \u201d. To achieve these demanding goals, the decree establishes a definitive scheme for the home collection of recyclable waste, that is, door to door, so that, over time, it will no longer be necessary to go to a clean point to leave these items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The implementation of this Rep Law, which was entered into the Comptroller's Office on June 23 of this year, will be gradual, and expects to collect 7.7 million tons of packaging and packaging waste, which will mean a very significant reduction in waste. that will eventually reach landfills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
