In alliance with Kal Tire Recycling Chile SPA, a company that develops processes and solutions regarding this waste, we work to generate circular raw materials.

Durante Exponor 2024 conversamos con el programa Reporte Sostenible sobre los beneficios de la circular economy. En esa línea, Luis Briones, jefe de Ventas de Zona Norte de Hidronor, comentó sobre las soluciones y servicios que ofrece nuestra compañía con respecto al reciclaje y el trabajo en conjunto con Kal Tire Recycling Chile SPA, empresa que desarrolla herramientas innovadoras, procesos y soluciones para cada etapa de la vida del neumático, desde el suministro y mantenimiento hasta las reparaciones y recauchaje.

Al respecto, Briones destacó que “junto a Kal Tire, empresa con la que llevamos más de tres años trabajando en conjunto, hemos desarrollado distintos tipos de servicios asociados a la industrial waste management, apoyándolos también en sus procesos de sustentabilidad. Inicialmente partimos con una línea de residuos sólidos y, posteriormente, nos fueron solicitando distintas alternativas de residuos líquidos, aporte y recuperación de envases”.

Por su parte, Rodrigo Reyes, gerente de la Planta de Reciclaje de Kal Tire, comentó que han incorporado un nuevo servicio que considera el reciclaje de los neumáticos dados de baja. “Esta iniciativa viene a entregar un abanico más extenso de soluciones alineadas con la REP Law. Iniciamos la construcción de la planta en 2019, partiendo la operación en 2021 y, actualmente, nos encontramos en un proceso normal de operación, dando servicio y soluciones, especialmente a sistemas de gestión que establece la Ley REP”. 

Likewise, Emilio Fuentes, in charge of the Environment at Kal Tire, explained that “the process consists of a thermal conversion of the out-of-use tires that we receive and we obtain three products: carbon black, which can be used in the mining industry to manufacturing of new tires; alternative fuel, whose high energy value can be used as combustion within the explosives industry; and the recovered steel.”

Contribution to sustainability

Regarding working together with our company, Rodrigo Reyes explained that “we understand that having alliances with companies established within the region that have all the facilities and permits allow us to certify that, regardless of the waste that we may generate in the process, “We know that when they are valued they will be in good hands”. 

Likewise, he stated that for Kal Tire it is of utmost importance to provide solutions that are sustainable in the industry. “That is why, with this plant, we seek to contribute to the virtuous cycle of the circular economy. And from that point of view, our main objective is that the co-products that we generate within the process can have an extension or serve as raw materials for other production processes,” he stated.
