World Recycling Day: How can we contribute to a greener Chile?

LinkedIn

Recently, on May 17th, we commemorated World Recycling Day. In this context, at Hidronor we want to highlight an encouraging figure: our country recycles 20.9% of the 19.6 million tons of waste it generates annually and expects to reach 75% by 2040, according to data released by the Ministry of the Environment.

In this regard, the government, organizations, and public and private companies are developing projects that motivate citizens to raise awareness and actively participate in this crusade. At Hidronor, we are also committed to sustainable waste management through our recycling and recovery services to help our clients reduce their environmental impact.

We work under the concept of "from waste to resource", carrying out specific initiatives of:

  • Energy recovery from waste through the production of liquid and solid alternative fuels, allowing the replacement of fossil fuels.
  • Reuse, recovery, and recycling of contaminated plastic and metal containers.
  • Recycling of aluminum and iron from aerosol containers.
  • Reutilización, reciclaje y valorización de otros residuos, tales como baterías de ácido-plomo, chatarra metálica, papel, cartón, maderas, plásticos, entre otros.

How can we contribute to a greener Chile?

Separate the waste: Classify waste into categories such as paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, and organic waste.

Reduce plastic consumption: Avoid using plastic bags, plastic bottles, and other disposable products.

Reuse: Look for ways to reuse items instead of throwing them away, such as using jars and containers to store food.

Recycle paper and cardboard: Recycle paper, cardboard, and cardstock to reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills.

Compost: Create a compost bin in your home to turn organic waste into fertilizer for your plants.

Buy recycled products: Support companies that produce recycled and sustainable products.

Avoid products with excessive packaging: Choose products with minimal or biodegradable packaging.

Participate in community recycling programs: Find out if there are recycling programs in your community and participate in them.

Education and awareness: Share information about the importance of recycling with family and friends.

Review your recycling habits: Adjust your practices as needed.

Remember, every little change counts, and together, we can make a big difference in protecting our planet.
