The BASF Concón site celebrated the first anniversary of the implementation of the composting system, a project developed in partnership with Hidronor and Geociclos that seeks to add value to the organic waste generated at the site.
During the activity, site employees received a bag of compost made at the plant along with a pack of seeds, with the aim of encouraging them to continue this cycle in their homes and actively contribute to the circular economy.
The ceremony was attended by Edvan Cordeiro, Site Manager of BASF Concón; Marcela Sepúlveda, Environmental Operations Coordinator of BASF Concón; and representing Hidronor, Daniela Mancilla, Head of Sales; Carolina Escandón, Head of Circular Economy; and Daniela Bertoni, Head of Marketing.
Composting: from waste to resource
The composting system, implemented in August 2024, includes six compost bins that allow the recycling of organic household and garden waste, transforming it into compost. This natural biodegradation process, driven by microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi, produces a nutrient-rich fertilizer that can be used to improve soil quality.
Among its many benefits, composting helps reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and provides a natural resource for the plant's gardens, reinforcing BASF's commitment to more sustainable management.
Commitment to sustainability
“The implementation of this composting system is very important for us, as it is fully aligned with our strategic plan and sustainability roadmap. Working toward a sustainable future is a key focus for BASF. In Concón, we are developing many measures along these lines, and composting is one of them,” said Edvan Cordeiro, Site Manager of BASF Concón.
Por su parte, Marcela Sepúlveda, Coordinadora de Operaciones Ambientales de BASF Concón, destacó: "This project was born with the goal of improving waste disposal and reducing our solid waste footprint by keeping it out of landfills. Today we celebrate one year of its launch by delivering compost to our employees, symbolically celebrating this cycle.".
With this activity, BASF and its employees celebrate a year of concrete achievements in sustainability and reaffirm their commitment to continue working together with Hidronor to promote projects that convert waste into resources and contribute to a cleaner future.
