This October 2nd, we celebrate National Environment Day. Chile generates more than 19 million tons of solid waste annually, according to the latest report from the Ministry of the Environment, with non-hazardous industrial waste being the largest category. Of this total, nearly 9 million tons were municipal waste, that is, from household sources, and more than 600,000 tons are classified as hazardous waste. This reminds us of the need to work together to address the environmental challenges we face, from protecting our ecosystems to promoting sustainable practices in industry and the community.
