Anniversary of the Paris Agreement: An urgent call for climate action

LinkedIn
At Hidronor, we commemorate this date—our ninth anniversary—as a key pillar in the fight against climate change.

Every December 12th marks the signing of the Paris Agreement, a historic treaty in which 197 countries committed to limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, with a maximum of 2°C. Its signing marked a milestone in the fight against climate change, a joint effort to mitigate the impact of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and promote adaptation to climate change.

The WMO State of the Global Climate 2023 report confirmed that 2023 was the warmest year on record, with a global average near-surface temperature 1.45°C (with an uncertainty of ±0.12°C) above pre-industrial reference levels.

In 2022, observed concentrations of the three major greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide) reached unprecedented levels. Real-time data from specific locations show a continued increase in 2023.

CO2 levels are 50% higher than in the pre-industrial era, trapping heat in the atmosphere. As a result of CO2's long lifetime, temperatures will continue to rise for many years.

Challenges

Climate finance remains one of the greatest challenges, especially for developing countries. It is estimated that the world needs to invest more than $4 trillion annually to meet the established goals, according to data from the globalpact.org platform.

The private sector also plays a crucial role in the transition to a low-carbon economy. Many companies are adopting sustainable strategies and committing to reducing their carbon footprint. Civil society initiatives, such as youth climate mobilizations, continue to pressure governments and corporations to act with greater urgency.

In this context, at Hidronor, we add value to environmental sustainability and the reduction of climate change through our industrial waste treatment and recovery servicesWe have advanced technology, state-of-the-art treatment plants, and a highly qualified and committed team of professionals dedicated to finding the best solution for industrial waste management in various sectors, contributing to the country's development, growth, and sustainability. We support all industries in meeting the environmental standards of the Paris Agreement and moving toward a cleaner and more responsible transition.

Let's redouble our efforts and continue moving forward in implementing sustainable solutions to limit global warming and avoid the most devastating effects of climate change!
