La promulgación de la nueva Ley de Responsabilidad Extendida al Productor (REP Law) ha generado todo un cambio en cómo se deben tratar los residuos en todas las industrias del país.

Actualmente, alrededor del 62% de los residuos totales que genera el país provienen del sector industrial y, de éstos, un 15% es producido por la industria agrícola y forestal.
