Following the premise of providing safe solutions in the matter of waste management, Hidronor starts up a plant to transform biogas extracted from the Copiulemu landfill into electricity, which operates in the commune of Florida, in the Biobío Region. For its development and implementation, Hidronor worked with the Portuguese company ENC Energy, a specialist in energy recovery from waste, which is now in charge of the operation.
Gonzalo Velásquez, Hidronor's Environmental Manager explains the benefits and technology that this new plant represents: «What was done before was to capture the biogas and take it to a flare where it was incinerated to avoid possible explosions. The new plant optimizes the gas control system and delivers a much more efficient and environmentally friendly solution, reducing the emission of greenhouse gases as well as the odors associated with the gases emitted by the accumulation and decomposition of organic waste. . For the implementation of the Hidronor plant, it modified the entire biogas capture system, contributing to the sustainable development of the country and the production of clean and renewable energy ”.
