Undoubtedly, one of the main challenges that Chile has in terms of preserving the environment is to improve its recycling rate, which currently does not exceed 28% in terms of industrial waste and 4.8%, in the case of the municipal ones.

Therefore, the country seeks to improve it through the implementation of the REP Law, proposing a recycling goal of at least 30% of the total waste generated. For this, producers and importers will play a fundamental role, since they must organize and finance the collection of waste from priority products provided for by legislation (lubricating oils, electrical and electronic equipment, containers and packaging, tires, cells and batteries). They will also have the obligation to monitor their storage, transportation and treatment, in order to meet the collection and recovery goals set by the Ministry of the Environment.

Therefore, the MMA will adopt legal and sanctioning powers, in order to comply with the commitments and standards that point to good waste management in Chile.
