There is less than a year left for the REP Law to take effect in its entirety: Do you know the challenges imposed for each productive sector?

Queda menos de un año para que la Ley REP comience a regir en su totalidad

Although the Extended Producer Responsibility Law (REP Law) published its official decree in 2021, it will be in September of next year (2023) when all the guidelines provided by it come into effect. Given the progress that this regulation has had in recent times and the constant publications and seminars aimed at educating companies on the correct procedure, it would be estimated that, to date, most of them are already aware of the challenges and plans to come, but apparently there is still a bit of misinformation about it.

As an initial phase, it is important to know that this regulation establishes six priority products (industries) that the waste collection and management goals will have a direct impact on. These are: lubricating oils, electrical and electronic equipment, batteries, containers and packaging, tires and batteries.

However, another key fact is that, according to the role of each company in the industry (manufacturers/producers, consumers, managers of priority products, importers and traders), each of them will have different responsibilities, but none escapes from this value chain that seeks to contribute to environmental sanitation in Chile.

As a key player in the waste process cycle, at Hidronor we provide solutions for their correct management under the concept 'from waste to resource', contributing to the value chain of the circular economy.

Thus, we can support the different companies with services associated with:

  • Electrical and Electronic Devices: At a national level, we concentrate different electrical and electronic devices in disuse to be recovered at the recycling companies that carry out the dismantling process, extracting precious metals and aluminum from metal casings.
  • Batteries: We deliver customized revaluation solutions and safe final disposal of this waste.
  • Car Batteries: We re-evaluate car batteries that contain acid and lead to produce cathodes for mining.
  • Containers and packaging: We provide treatment, revaluation and recycling of contaminated containers and packaging.
  • Tires: We have recycling solutions for smaller scale tires (trucks and vehicles) through Greendot, a company of our own company.

All the information associated with goals, latest developed regulations, deadlines and progress is updated on the portal of this regulation (https://www.leyrep.cl/), so we invite you to review in detail the challenges imposed for each productive sector in order to start operating sustainably as soon as possible.
