Chile approved the Paris agreement on climate change

The Senate Environment Committee approved the Paris Agreement to tackle climate change. The agreement, signed by the Government of Chile in September 2016, aims to strengthen the global response against climate change.

One of the main objectives is to keep the increase in the global average temperature below 2ºC and continue with the efforts to reduce the increase to 1.5ºC, with respect to pre-industrial levels.

Chile committed by 2030 to reduce its CO2 emissions per unit of GDP by 30% compared to 2007. In addition to a specific contribution, which consists of the afforestation of 00,000 hectares of forest, mainly native, which will represent captures of between 900,000 and 1,200,000 tons of CO2 per year, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases.
