According to the last 2022 report issued by Sernageomin, the agency reported that in our country there are 473 deposits of relaves inactive and 173 abandoned, which makes Chile the third country in the world with the most collection places for mining liabilities.

In view of this reality and with the aim of deepening a methodology that allows progress in its physical stability, the Fondef project "Risk Monitoring System around Tailings Deposits" was recently launched, which will be led by the University of Chile through the Mathematical Modeling Center (CMM) and the Advanced Mining Technology Center (AMTC), together with the Undersecretary of Mining and the National Geology and Mining Service (Sernageomin).

In detail, the execution of this project seeks to generate a monitoring tool focused on the problem of the physical stability of these inactive and abandoned deposits, for which reason it will start with the study with 13 of them.

It is worth noting that this will be a multidisciplinary project that will use mathematical modeling techniques, data processing, algorithms, artificial intelligence tools, and satellite images to obtain the expected results.

At Hidronor we support the development of this type of initiative and thanks to our services and extensive national coverage we serve more than 85% of the mining companies that operate in the country, accompanying them step by step in the management of all their waste and providing them with comprehensive solutions. that support its sustainable management.

Let's continue contributing to a more sustainable Chile!
