Toxic waste is a type of hazardous waste that can cause harmful effects on the health of humans and other species of animals. In general, they come from the industrial sector and their harmful effects can range from the deterioration of the earth's surface to influencing the food chain.
Una característica importante de los desechos tóxicos, es que pueden acelerar la proliferación de las bacterias, y una vez liberados al medio ambiente pueden alcanzar distancias muy lejanas a las del origen de emisión, a través de las corrientes marinas, o arrastradas por el aire. La particularidad de este tipo de residuos es que tarda varios años en biodegradarse y desaparecer.

Toxic wastes are classified as follows: Detergent Wastes, Dioxins, Phenols, Fluorides, Hydrocarbons, and Mercury.
