New heavy metal decontamination plan in Valparaíso

LinkedIn

President Sebastián Piñera announced a new decontamination plan for the Quintero and Puchuncaví sectors after the polluting episodes experienced in the last quarter of 2018.

Due to the complex environmental situation of the area, a decontamination plan is proposed in stages, with the aim of reducing the impact of discharges from the industrial plant on the environment and on the health of the inhabitants of the sector. Academics indicate that as a consequence of the action of natural factors, pollution comes into contact with water or soil and that, in their opinion, can be a cause of pollution that affects both environmental matrices, adding that any emission that is going to the atmosphere at some point begins to decay towards the soils.

Some of the common heavy metals to be found in the area after industrial activities are: mercury, cobalt and molybdenum; Depending on the type of industry that generates them, a decontamination plan should be applied.
