On Tuesday, December 15, 2015, the Senate Environment Committee dispatched the Law for the Promotion of Recycling and Extended Producer Responsibility. Cabe recordar, que lo que busca esta ley, es establecer un marco general para la gestión de residuos peligrosos en el país, y que cierto tipo de productos destinen parte importante del material que los componen al reciclaje, reutilización o revalorización de estos.
Likewise, the Extended Producer Responsibility (REP) regulates that anyone who introduces a priority product for the first time in the national market, is responsible for organizing and financing the waste management of the products that are marketed in the country.
For his part, Pablo Badenier, Minister of the Environment, assures that "this is a very necessary public policy for the country, in which we have incorporated grassroots recyclers, industry and municipalities" and that "with this, Chile is going to have better systems for differentiated collection, recovery, and ultimately the power to make recycling a formal industry and part of the daily activity of families ”, he concludes.
