The Biogas is increasingly becoming a versatile renewable energy source and essential for its contribution to energy security and the reduction of Emissions of greenhouse gases. In the Biobío Region, Hidronor is operating with a modern Biogas plant since 2018, extracting to date a volume of 5,134,905 Nm3.

The biogas from the landfill is produced by decomposing the organic fraction of waste deposited in landfills and is typically 35-65% methane (CH4), 15-50% carbon dioxide (CO2) and a mixture of other gases, such such as: nitrogen, hydrogen, hydrogen sulfide gas, carbon monoxide, ammonia and oxygen.

The plant allows the recovery energy of the biogas produced by decomposition of the organic fraction of Solid Urban Waste, MSW, deposited in the landfill. Understand the extraction of biogas from the landfill and its use as fuel in motor generators up to a power close to 3 MW. The electrical energy produced is raised to 12.5 kV and injected into the distribution network.
