As part of our commitment to sustainability, we joined the technology program promoted by Corfo, which, in collaboration with various companies in the BioBío region, seeks to convert environmental liabilities into commercially valuable products, contributing to a cleaner and more efficient industry.
In line with its mission to lead sustainable waste management in Chile, Hidronor joined the "Valoriza MáS" program, run by the Technological Development Unit (UDT) of the University of Concepción. The program aims to contribute to the development of innovative technologies that transform waste from the manufacturing and services industries into products with commercial value. This initiative represents a key step toward consolidating a circular economy in the country, where waste is no longer a problem, but an opportunity to generate new businesses and reduce environmental impact.
In this context, the manufacturing and services industries generate thousands of tons of waste each year, much of which is not properly utilized. Valoriza Más seeks to change this reality by scaling up mechanical, chemical, biological, and thermochemical conversion technologies, enabling this waste to be transformed into raw materials for new products. As a leading environmental management company, at Hidronor we contribute our experience and technical knowledge to advance this challenge.
Regarding our company's participation, Carla Pérez, director of Valoriza Más, emphasized that "Hidronor's collaboration is key, given its role in the field of waste recovery, and its contribution can be fundamental in sizing up the current problem and providing strategic information. In this sense, we look forward to their support in characterizing waste, providing data on the types and volumes generated in the region, as well as in identifying the main difficulties in its classification and final disposal. Furthermore, their knowledge of the recovery market will be very useful in understanding which factors determine the success of associated processes and products, allowing us to better target our strategies. We also value their insight into logistics and waste treatment costs, key information for evaluating the economic feasibility of different recovery alternatives. We believe that working together with Hidronor will significantly contribute to the development of innovative and sustainable solutions, promoting the circular economy in the region."
Pérez added that the Valoriza MáS program "has been implemented since December 17, 2024, and is currently focused on the Biobío Region. However, we do not rule out the possibility of considering waste materials from nearby regions, as the waste generated in different areas of the country has similar characteristics. In this context, we believe the scope of the project can evolve to a national and, why not, even international level, promoting innovative and sustainable solutions for waste recovery."
For her part, Valentina Capelli, Deputy Manager of Development at Hidronor, emphasized that "we believe that the participation and collaboration of different stakeholders in this program contributes to individual recovery and recycling initiatives translating into concrete actions that contribute to the circular economy, generating a positive economic, environmental, and social impact."
With initiatives like Valoriza Más, Hidronor reaffirms its role as a key player in the transition toward a circular economy in Chile, where waste is transformed into resources and sustainability becomes the central axis of industrial development.
Valoriza Más shows us that, with innovation and collaboration, it is possible to build a more sustainable future for Chile and the planet.
